Abi Clarke
In the olden
days, i.e. in the early 2020s. In the past comedians would have had the
expectation to gig up and down the UK for several years prior to getting
invited to join a television panel and selling an arena tour. However, it's not
so easy at the moment. One art form that could be performed live in the future
is comedy, but there won't soon be any arena tours. However there is a Bristol
comedian has found a global audience through the social media lockdown. Abi
Clarke never set out to become a famous internet personality. The 24-year old,
living in Hen bury, with her parents, started making online videos "to
gain a following of like-minded individuals who would appreciate my stand-up
comedy. "I performed a variety of shows in the depths of Devon for men of
50 and older who weren't so enthusiastic about my Love Island, Sims and
Twilight references so I went online with the hopes of meeting other young
women who could relate to me." Abi has since been performing at Lakota
Gardens after the restrictions on lockdowns have been eased however she is
still posting her videos on Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok (where she's
recently surpassed 500k followers) In the process, she draws the inspiration
she needs from sources as diverse as her job at a café, a conversation with a
stranger or a girl group chat, writing every thought down on her phone.
